Description
From Introduction
The year 2009 was marked by celebrations of the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe (…). From that moment the cultural sector has undergone multiple changes and has had to answer to new challenges, not only in post-communist countries (…). So, how has the face of European culture changed since the collapse of communism? How have these changes influenced the culture management system, cultural policy and finally, the activities in this very sector? What were and what are the trends, challenges and solutions in cultural policies in European states over the last twenty years? These were some of the issues debated by the group of fifty European experts, who were invited to Cracow by the International Cultural Centre and the Council of Europe for the first conference of the CultureWatchEurope cycle of events, which took place precisely on the 20th anniversary of the peaceful victory achieved by Polish Solidarity. This publication summarizes the debate.
