Archival events » Cultural heritage and its protection. Polish‑Belarusian round table

The experience and knowledge gathered by the ICC in its research and publishing work (the series Materials for the History of the Religious Art  in  the Eastern Borderlands of the Former Polish Republic) form the basis for initiating a scholarly dialogue with the Belarusian partners on the practical and theoretical aspects of broadly conceived protection of cultural heritage, that is not only the legacy of the Polish‑Lithuanian Kingdom but also the traces of the turbulent 20‑century history of these territories.
The idea of the round table is to gather in one place people from both countries responsible for shaping the systems of heritage protection, experts and specialists in the management of heritage protection, custodians of monuments (especially those inscribed in the UNESCO list), representatives of non‑governmental organisations as well as historians and cultural researchers preoccupied with the issues of heritage and memory. Such a meeting of experts presents an excellent opportunity for identifying the best strategies and solutions in protection and professional management of cultural heritage, for exchange of opinion, experiences and good practices and finally for pinpointing common problems and new challenges. In specific cases it also makes it possible to launch a direct cooperation between Belarusian and Polish specialists and heritage institutions.
