The phenomenon of the Bloomsbury Group derives from its diversity. Painting, graphics, literature and theory of art entwine in the works of its members. Exactly this wealth of themes and motives is represented in the exhibition taking place in the ICC Gallery and the accompanying events. Every Thursday afternoon we would like to invite you to explore the variety of the Bloomsbury Group.


Each Sunday a guided exhibition tour included in the ticket price:

Bloomsbury London and its secrets,
by Marek Kucharski - English linguist, lector at the Jagiellonian University, translator and pedagogue. He is also concerned with publicism and methodics of English language. He is an eminent expert and enthusiast of the Bloomsbury Group and London itself.

The rise, fall and the rise of Bloomsbury
dr Monika Rydiger talks to Tony Bradshaw, co-curator of the exhibition (simultaneous translation provided)

Not only Bloomsbury. Decadent and modern apartments of the early 20th century artists
by dr hab. Andrzej Pieńkos - art historian, critic. He conducts research of art and the artistic culture of Europe in the XVIII - XX centuries. Author of House of Art. Artists' residences in the modern culture of Europe, which is an overview of artists' houses.

 Polish Borderland to Bloomsbury: Mark Gertler's Journey from East to West
by Sarah MacDougall - art historian, writer, curator. In her field of interest there are the works of English painters and writers of Jewish ancestry, from the beginning of the XX century, the so called "Whitechapel Boys". She is a distinguished expert of Mark Getler's art - "the satellite" of the Bloomsbury Group, who came to England from Przemyśl.(in English, simultaneous translation provided)

November 4, 5 p.m.
Film associations: British fiction of the 20th century on screen
by prof. Alicja Helman - film historian and theoretician; essayist and translator. Her major research interest include cinematic adaptations of works of literature. She wrote Twórcza zdrada. Filmowe adaptacje literatury [Creative treason. Cinematic adaptations of works of literature] (1998)

Nowy Theatre at the ICC. Reading of Virginia Woolf's essays with live music by Kwartet Smyczkowy Filharmoników Krakowskich

The theory of John Maynard Keynes and the current crisis
by Prof. Andrzej Wojtyna - economist, member of Monetary Policy Council, head of the chair of Macroeconomics at Cracow University of Economics. Author of Ewolucja keynesizmu a główny nurt ekonomii [Evolution of Keynesism and the mainstream of economy] (2000)

December 2, 5 p.m.
In the footsteps of the Pre-Raphaelites. Polish-British artistic relations in the 1st half of the 20th century
by dr Andrzej Szczerski - assistant professor at the Institute of Art History at the Jagiellonian University. His numerous publications on art history include a book entitled Recepcja sztuki brytyjskiej w Europie Środkowej około roku 1900 [Reception of British art in Central Europe around 1900] (2002) - and dr Piotr Kopszak - art historian, currently employed in the National Museum in Warsaw, author of numerous exhibitions, including An artist on holiday? in Museum Palace at Wilanów, and Art and the City in A Gallery in Starograd Gdański. Piotr Kopszak and Andrzej Szczerski are the authors of exhibitions In the footsteps of the Pre-Raphaelites in Museum Palace at Wilanów (2006), Polish and British Symbolism in Tate Britain in London (with Alison Smith, 2009)
