Education

The ICC’s educational activity targets various groups: those working in the culture sector, students, young people and children. In addition to specialised educational programmes, gallery classes and workshops are prepared to accompany specific exhibitions.

The Academy of Heritage

Ccontinuation of the 6th Edition: January – July
The 7th Edition: October – December

October 2011 will see the inauguration of the seventh postgraduate two‑semester study course – the Academy of Heritage, organised by the ICC in cooperation with the Małopolska School of Public Administration at the Krakow University of Economics. The target group includes public administration staff, heritage preservation service staff, teachers, museum and cultural institution staff and cultural tourism organisers. By participating in lectures and seminars which cover economic, social and political aspects as a basis of modern heritage preservation philosophy, the students are trained in modern heritage protection and management methods. The curriculum also consists of field workshops at historic landmarks, and field studies of the cultural heritage management and management of cultural institutions. The academic staff comprises outstanding specialists, authors of numerous publications on cultural heritage protection and the revitalisation of historical complexes, as well as directors, curators and conservators of historical complexes and museum collections. The staff also includes participants of Thesaurus Poloniae grant programme, a prestigious programme of the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, who conduct research on the cultural heritage of Central Europe in Krakow. In the first Polish ranking of postgraduate studies in culture management, the Academy of Heritage was ranked second among eleven programmes that were evaluated. The assessment was done by the Polish Portal of Culture Managers in 2007, which took into account factors such as the staff, the curriculum and course fees.

An international session addressed to representatives of managers of sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as representatives of heritage protection services in V4 countries recommended by the Steering Committee of the Working Group on Cultural Heritage in the V4 Countries, will take place under the aegis of the ministers of culture from the Visegrad group countries and is a continuation of programmes from 2009, 2010 and 2011. Its aim is the exchange of experiences and good practices in management and protection of sites inscribed on the List. Trainings in three previous years were concerned with issues of sites management in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; in 2012 it will be sites from the Hungarian UNESCO list.


Heritage of the Polish Borderlands – part 3

August  – September
Third part of the international touring seminar with the aim of presenting to a group of Far Eastern researchers of Polish culture the heritage and history of the former eastern borderlands of Poland. The previous two editions were held  in  the Ukraine (2008) and Lithuania (2010). Both of them were attended by about 20 scholars from Japan and China. The 2012 seminar concerns the territory of Belarus.

Educational workshops
The ICC has carried out a number of educational programmes addressed to diverse age groups: children, youth and adults. The activities deal with issues of culture and art, as well as the culture and heritage of a given cultural area. In 2012, a series of art workshops for children and classes at the Gallery for schoolchildren will be conducted as well as a continuation of meetings as part of the project entitled: Mature for Art. Meetings at the ICC Gallery.

Meetings and lectures
Similarly to previous years all exhibitions at the ICC gallery will have a full programme of accompanying events which will include lectures, meetings with prominent figures in culture and art, film-screenings, concerts and readings of literary works to broaden knowledge of the exhibition subject.
